WORKSHOP: FERNS IN PEN AND CLAY WITH LARA GASTINGER AND SUZANNE CRANE
March 10, 2019 @ 12:30 pm - 4:00 pm
| $80This two part workshop will take place at Mud Dauber Pottery, Suzanne Crane’s studio and gallery in Earlysville, Virginia (4225 Earlysville Road). In the first session, Lara will teach how to identify and illustrate a Christmas fern (Polystichum acrostichoides) with a pen. We will learn how to stipple to create value and the final drawing will be matted to go home.
In the second session, Suzanne will talk to participants about how she incorporates botanical impressions in her stoneware pieces, and then will lead the group in how to make a 6″ botanical tile. Each participant will create a 6″ tile impressed with a Christmas fern and a border. The tiles will be bisque fired when dry and can be picked up at Mud Dauber two weeks later. For an additional fee, Suzanne will glaze and fire the bisqued tiles.
$80 covers the 3.5 hour (+if needed) class, including paper, mat, clay, porcelain slip, botanical specimens, bisque firing.
