In the heat of Virginia’s late summer, I made a set of five canisters adorned with water hemlock leaves and berries. I topped each jar with a ball and a clay sketch of a bird. Each piece works on its own as an independent piece of art, but because of the varying gestures and postures of the birds, they are even more charming in pairs, triplets or more. This piece is medium-large at 9″ to the bird’s shoulder and 5″ in diameter. Plenty of room to see the intricate details of the water hemlock impression through the lovely moss green celadon glaze.
