The kingfisher atop this jar is a clay “sketch” inspired by a Japanese sumi-e ink brush painting of a bird.  It is made with very wet clay, and to preserve the texture and freshness of the clay, I’ve treated it with just a red iron oxide wash and no glaze.  The rest of the piece is wheel-thrown, and glazed in my old moss-green celadon.  The plant impressed in the lower part is smartweed.  11.5” tall by 5.5” diameter.
