Ukrainian Ceramic Whistle: Deer in Love
Slava Ukraini! In an effort to support Ukraine’s independent artisans and small shops, I have brought in a variety of hand-made craft directly from Ukraine. Olga Otnyakina-Berdnyk works in Cherkasy, Ukraine. She has worked in clay for over 20 years making penny-whistles for children, based on Ukrainian folk-lore, but more often than not, these are collected as interior sculpture for adults.
Deer in Love is rendered in exuberant green, yellow and red, with metallic gold accents. Make no mistake: this is not a child’s toy!
8” by 10” x 3” (larger than one would think for a whistle!)
